Frequently Asked Questions

All NEW swimmers regardless of age are required to show swim competency for their health and safety. Assessment dates are May 17th and 18th. We are not concerned with how long it takes or what stroke is used. We just need to see swimmers can make it across the pool without assistance.

The Summit Swim Team Program is open to all Valencia Summit HOA residents aged 16 and under (including The Stratfords). Swimmer must reside in the property and cannot use an address of a family member, friend, or other individual for the purpose of joining the Valencia Summit Seal Swim Program.

To ensure all swimmers are safe in the water, any new swimmer, regardless of age, will be required to show that they can independently swim 25 meters across the length of the pool. This must be done without adult assistance or the assistance of flotation devices. However, swimmers may stop along the way (tread water, grab the lane line, etc). It does not need to be continuous. This year’s swim test will be May 16 and May 17. Signups will be emailed to those applicable about 1 week prior.

Practice is held daily M-F for 1 hour. All practiced will be held at the mail pool on Del Monte Dr. Swimmers will be split up based on age and have the following practice schedule for the 2025 season. We have adjusted the swim schedule to reflect the local school districts’ schedule for June. Practice times are subject to change based on swimmer enrollment count.

May 27 – June 13

3:30-4:45pm – Age 11 & Up

4:45-5:30pm – Age 6 & Under

5:30-6:30pm – Age 7-8

6:30-7:30pm – Age 9-10

June 16 thru July 11

2:00-3:15pm – Age 11 & Up

3:15-4:15 – Age 9-10

4:15-5:15 – Age 7-8

5:15-6:00 – Age 6 & Under

Families with children age 8 and under – It is mandatory that a parent or guardian be present at the pool during ALL practices and meets.

Pick-Up – Please be at the pool promptly when your swimmer’s practice ends. Our coaches need to be able to concentrate on the swimmers in the current practice and cannot supervise your child(ren) before or after practices.

2025 Team Competition Swim Suits and Team Spirit Wear can be ordered through our TEAM STORE. Team suits are required to be worn at all meets during the season. 2025 suits or any previous year’s summit seals team suits are acceptable. Team suits are not required to be worn during practices, your swimmer may wear any other appropriate swimwear during practices.

Pictures are not included in the price of registration, but we do have a picture day scheduled where professional pictures can be purchased. Individual and Team pictures will be taken at the Del Monte pool on June 6, 2025. Individual Pictures are from 2:30-3:30 with team pictures promptly at 3:30pm. There is no make-up picture day.

Warm-ups – Please have your swimmer ready for warm-up at 7:15AM for the home meets and 7:30AM for the away meets. We understand it is cold and early, but a good warm-up is crucial to preventing injuries. Each team is given 20 minutes of warm-up before the meet begins.

Swim Meets – Meets begin at 8:30AM and the Championship Meet begins at 8:00AM. While the older swimmers could be there as late as 2:00PM, the younger swimmers will most likely be done around 11:00 AM. Be sure to clean up after your family before you leave. Meets are 100% volunteer run and we need all hands on deck. Parents please be prepared to volunteer if your help is needed.

Individual Swim Meet Events – The coaches pick the stroke(s) your child will be swimming for the meets. Their goal is to have your child swim each stroke before Championships. Please do not ask the coaches to change the event(s) as all schedules are finalized with the league in advance.

Locations – The meets are held at neighboring HOA pools in Valencia. Addresses can be found in the calendar.

What to Bring – Lots of water! Food, although breakfast, lunch, treats, and drinks are sold at each of the meets at the canteen. You will want to bring sunscreen, goggles, swim caps, towels (one towel per event is a good rule of thumb – don’t forget warm ups), warm clothes for the early mornings, chairs to sit in, and money for the canteen.

Set-Up – You’re welcome to set-up chairs for the Saturday meets on Friday evening. Set up times will be posted on the white board at the Summit Pool during practice on the Friday before the meet.

One of the best aspects of the Seals is seeing the older swimmers interact with the younger swimmers. The Junior Coaches are Seals who are 13 years and older that volunteer to help in the water and work with the younger swimmers during practices. Junior coaches also help out at events, meets, etc. The coaches also plan special team building activities just for them to thank and reward the Junior Coaches for their dedication and hard work. We are a non-profit so volunteer hours can count for service hours if needed. Please see a coach or board member for more information.

We know families have planned vacations, Vacation Bible School, and other fun activities in the summer. We would love to have the swimmers at every practice and meet but understand families are striking a balance.

If you know you are going to miss a meet, please let us know as soon as possible.

If a child does not pass the swim competency assessment, or you need to cancel your registration for another reason, you are eligible for a refund less the processing fee (4.95%) and any other elected purchases, such as swim cap, etc. All refunds will be prorated, if applicable. No refunds will be made after May 26, 2025.

2025 Coaching Staff

Julia Melchiorre - Head Coach

We are excited to welcome Coach Julia back for the 2025 season as co-head coach alongside Coach Nadia! Julia was born and raised in Santa Clarita and has been a Seal for 14 years. The 2025 season will be her fifth year coaching for the Seals! After graduating from Hart High School and Manhattan College, she spent nine months in Spain teaching English abroad. Currently, she teaches 6th grade PE, history, and art at Village Christian School in Burbank. Julia is proud to have led the Seals to a league championship victory in 2023, after a 20+ year drought! As a lifelong Seal, she has a deep passion for the community the team brings and can’t imagine a summer not spent on the pool deck. In her coaching, she loves combining stroke technique with engaging drills and challenging swimmers to do things they didn’t think were possible (no-breathers, here we come!). Her goal with the Seals is to see each swimmer improve while fostering a sense of community both in and out of the water. In her free time, she enjoys going to the gym, Zumba, traveling, and hiking. Right now, she’s training for both a marathon and a triathlon in the fall. She can’t wait to meet new faces and reconnect with returning swimmers this summer. Let’s go Seals! We bleed green!

Nadia Kirchmann - Head Coach

We are thrilled to welcome Coach Nadia back for the 2025 season as co-head coach alongside Coach Julia! This will be Nadia’s fourth year coaching for the Seals. She graduated from Hart High School in 2024, where she served as captain of both the swim and dive teams. Now, she’s studying political science with an emphasis in pre-law at San Diego State University. Nadia has been a Seal since she was 6 years old and has countless fun memories from her time on the pool deck with friends. These wonderful moments continue to grow each summer she gets the chance to be part of this spirit-filled community. She’s passionate about helping swimmers improve, especially when it comes to mastering the technical aspects of each stroke. Her patience, encouragement, and love for working with swimmers of all ages make her a perfect fit for this new leadership role. Nadia is so excited to return this summer to work with both returning Seals and new ones. She’s looking forward to a season full of laughs, smiles, hard work, and tons of improvement. She can’t wait to see what our Seals accomplish this year! GO SEALS!!!
