Frequently Asked Questions

All NEW swimmers regardless of age are required to show swim competency for their health and safety. Assessment dates are TBD and times will be discussed at the Parent Meeting. We are not concerned with how long it takes or what stroke is used. We just need to see swimmers can make it across the pool without assistance.

The Summit Swim Team Program is open to all Valencia Summit HOA residents aged 16 and under (including The Stratfords). Swimmer must reside in the property and cannot use an address of a family member, friend, or other individual for the purpose of joining the Valencia Summit Seal Swim Program.

To ensure all swimmers are safe in the water, any new swimmer, regardless of age, will be required to show that they can independently swim 25 meters across the length of the pool. This must be done without adult assistance or the assistance of flotation devices. However, swimmers may stop along the way (tread water, grab the lane line, etc). It does not need to be continuous. The date of this year’s swim test is TBD and will be discussed at the Parent Meeting on Wednesday, May 6, 2026 at the Del Monte Clubhouse. Signups will be emailed to those applicable about 1 week prior.

Practice is held daily M-F for 1 hour. All practiced will be held at the main pool on Del Monte Dr. Swimmers will be split up based on age for the 2026 season. We will adjust the swim schedule to reflect the local school districts’ schedule for June. Practice times are subject to change based on swimmer enrollment count.

Families with children age 8 and under – It is mandatory that a parent or guardian be present at the pool during ALL practices and meets.

Pick-Up – Please be at the pool promptly when your swimmer’s practice ends. Our coaches need to be able to concentrate on the swimmers in the current practice and cannot supervise your child(ren) before or after practices.

2026 Team Competition Swim Suits and Team Spirit Wear can be ordered through our TEAM STORE. Team suits are required to be worn at all meets during the season. 2026 suits or any previous year’s summit seals team suits are acceptable. Team suits are not required to be worn during practices, your swimmer may wear any other appropriate swimwear during practices.

Pictures are not included in the price of registration, but we do have a picture day scheduled where professional pictures can be purchased. Individual and Team pictures will be taken at the Del Monte pool on June 6, 2025. There is no make-up picture day.

Warm-ups – Please have your swimmer ready for warm-up at 7:15AM for the home meets (June 20th and June 27th) and 7:30AM for the away meet (June 13th). A good warm-up is crucial to preventing injuries. Each team is given 20 minutes of warm-up before the meet begins.

Swim Meets – Meets begin at 8:30AM and the Championship Meet begins at 8:00AM. While the older swimmers could be there as late as 2:00PM, the younger swimmers will most likely be done around 11:00 AM. We need EVERYONE to volunteer at the Championship Meet. With all four teams competing, there are many opportunities to help! Meets are 100% volunteer run and we need all hands on deck. Also, please be sure to clean up after your family before you leave.

Individual Swim Meet Events – The coaches pick the stroke(s) your child will be swimming for the meets. Their goal is to have your child swim each stroke before Championships. Please do not ask the coaches to change the event(s) as all schedules are finalized with the league in advance.

Locations – The meets are held at neighboring HOA pools in Valencia. Addresses can be found in the calendar and detailed information will be emailed out a few days before each meet.

What to Bring – Lots of water! Food, (although breakfast, lunch, treats, and drinks are sold at each of the meets at the canteen). You will want to bring sunscreen, goggles, swim caps, towels (one towel per event is a good rule of thumb – don’t forget warm ups), warm clothes for the early mornings, chairs to sit in, and money for the canteen.

Set-Up – You’re welcome to set-up chairs for the Saturday meets on Friday evening. Set up times will be posted on the white board at the Summit Pool during practice on the Friday before the meet.

One of the best aspects of the Seals is seeing the older swimmers interact with the younger swimmers. The Junior Coaches are Seals who are 13 years & older who volunteer to help in the water with the younger swimmers during practices. Junior coaches also help out at events, meets, etc. The coaches plan special team building activities just for the Junior Coaches! We are a non-profit so volunteer hours can count for service hours if needed. Please see a coach or board member for more information.

We know families plan vacations, participate in Vacation Bible School, and other fun activities in the summer. We would love to have the swimmers at every practice and meet but understand families are striking a balance.

If you know you are going to miss a meet, please notify a coach or Board Member as soon as possible.

If a child does not pass the swim competency assessment, or you need to cancel your registration for another reason, you are eligible for a refund less the processing fee (4.95%) and any other elected purchases, such as swim cap, etc. All refunds will be prorated, if applicable. No refunds will be made after May 26, 2025.
